PROVIDENCE, R.I., July 15, 2022 — Sapphire Waveplates from Meller Optics Inc. can convert the polarization state of laser light into a different polarization state.

The devices can be made as thin as 0.5 mm and <25 mm in diameters. They are resistant to chemicals, scratching, shock, and temperature fluctuations, and manufactured to customer specifications from 10 to 30 mm in A or M plane configurations. Polarization control is extended into the IR, and a hardness of Mohs 9 is achieved. The waveplates provide a transmitted wavefront of up to λ/10 at 632 µm.
