Scientific CMOS CameraThe pco.panda 4.2 bi camera from PCO AG is a back-illuminated (bi) scientific CMOS camera in an ultracompact housing.

The front of the sensor holds the CMOS circuitry. Because this circuitry partially covers the surface of each pixel, a large portion of the pixel is blocked from collecting light. With bi technology, the light from the object passes through the lens and strikes the backside of the sensor. Therefore, the light encounters no obstacles, allowing the full pixel area to be used for light collection.

Exposure through the backside of the sensor results in a high quantum efficiency of 95 percent, making it particularly well-suited for low-light microscopy applications.
