UV Solar Blind Silicon Carbide (SiC) Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs) from Electro Optical Components Inc. are designed for low-signal applications in the UV range such as flame detection.
APDs are extremely sensitive with high signal gain, but they are only sensitive to UV exposure. The devices are solid-state solutions for UV photo multiplier tube applications. They provide stability in high-energy UV applications, higher temperature stability than silicon, and a sensitivity of 1 nW/cm2.
