Laser Components’ new side-fire fibers for medical laser technology transmit light that is coupled out at the fiber tip at an angle perpendicular to the fiber axis.

The side-fire fibers are used to remove tissue in hollow organs and to treat prostate enlargements, for example. The diameters of the fibers can be inserted into the body endoscopically until the treatment area is reached.

A laser shapes the tips of the fiber, which feature an angle of 42º. They are then enclosed in a hermetically mounted glass dome.
