Siletz REP-1XJ0A Series
Voxtel Inc.
APD receivers
BEAVERTON, Ore., May 12, 2009 – For rangefinding, lidar, ladar, fluorescence measurements, free-space optical communication systems, spectroscopy, electrophoresis and chromatography applications in the near-infrared, Voxtel Inc. has announced the release of its Siletz REP-1XJ0A series avalanche photodiode (APD) receivers. The company says that the optical subassembly provides sensitivity 2 to 4 dBm better than that of other receivers covering the 950- to 1700-nm spectral range, and it operates at frequencies up to 2.7 GHz with responsivity of 1 A/W.
The receiver is based on the proprietary and patented single-carrier multiplication InGaAs avalanche photodiode, which offers high gain and low excess noise and amplifies the near-IR optical signal over the amplifier noise floor, providing better than -44 dBm noise equivalent power and good bit error rate performance over the entire frequency range. The single-carrier multiplication APD provides two times better temperature stability than conventional APDs do, reducing demands on bias stabilization and temperature compensation.
The REP-1XJ0A model Siletz receiver is housed in a hermetic TO-8 package with a thermoelectric cooler that stabilizes the APD temperature, facilitating system integration. Also included is a low-noise transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and a pulse detection circuit. The single-carrier multiplication APD and the TIA are integrated onto a ceramic submount, lowering parasitic capacitance. The 4-GB/s APD receiver is available with the option for single- and multimode fiber tails.
