id Quantique is offering two new detectors in its id120 series of high-quantum-efficiency photon counters. Based on a silicon avalanche photodiode that is sensitive in the visible spectral range, the two models have efficiency values up to 80% in the red region and an active area of 500 µm.

Both detectors come as free-space modules with passive quenching. One has a maximal efficiency value up to 60% around 650 nm, while the other has a maximal efficiency value up to 80% around 800 nm.

Their USB connection and LabView interface allow the user to change the bias voltage, the dead time and the diode temperature, and thus to control quantum efficiency, dark count and after-pulsing rates.

The modules have a dual universal output signal port that can be set through the software interface. They are compatible with C-mount, SM1 and cage technologies, enabling the light beam to be coupled onto the active area.
