SPARTANBURG, S.C., Sept. 7, 2011 — AFL has launched its SimpleView software for optical fiber and connector inspection.

Fiber end-face contamination is a key cause of network performance issues and outages, resulting in costly truck rolls. The software permits technicians to use existing field-issued laptops as a fiber inspection system by simply plugging in a Noyes DFS1 FiberScope. Such a system provides a 250-µm field of view and 1-µm optical resolution and enables users to detect particles and scratches as small as 0.5 µm.

The software integrates the Noyes DFS1 FiberScope with laptops, tablets and palmtop computers. It enables installers and activation crews to view high-resolution end-face images and to quickly determine if cleaning is required. Documenting the as-built or as-found condition of network connections is practical, quick and easy.

SimpleView software is compatible with Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems and requires a single USB 1.1 port. It is available as a free download.
