SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 7, 2009 – Rad-icon Imaging Corp. has announced the general availability of the compact SkiaGraph10 EV, an addition to its line of very large area digital CMOS x-ray cameras. It features 25% more active area than its predecessors and, consistent with the earlier SkiaGraph8, it supports x-ray energies up to 160 kVp, features low power consumption and provides good detective quantum efficiency, high resolution and high sensitivity.
Larger area panels enable medical radiologists and industrial inspectors to image proportionally larger subjects in a field where images cannot be reduced by optical coupling. End users can accommodate any general radiography procedure within fixed or portable systems.

The camera builds upon a tiled configuration of the proprietary RadEye100 very large area CMOS image sensors to achieve a scalable active sensing area of 20 × 25 cm. Operating at up to 1.4 fps and at 5.3 fps in binned mode, it provides real-time imaging, 12- or 14-bit digital contrast resolution and five line pairs per millimeter spatial resolution. Fiber optic technology increases lifetime. The camera is supplied with ready-to-run software and drivers, and its LVDS interface integrates easily with image acquisition hardware. It offers a variety of frame grabber options, including Ethernet.

Achieving 2000 × 2560-pixel resolution, the camera enables delivery of lower-dose x-ray images. A 2-cm border between the active matrix and the edge of the panel minimizes image obstructions. Multiple scintillator options, including Kodak Min-R 2190, Kasei DRZ-Std and custom rare-earth screens, offer high sensitivity. A Gd2O2S (Gadox) integrated direct-contact scintillator converts x-ray photons into visible light that is sensed by the CMOS photodiodes. A thin graphite cover protects the sensor from accidental damage as well as from ambient light. Analog signals from the photodiode sensors are digitized in eight or more parallel analog-to-digital channels and then interleaved for maximum transmission across a high-speed parallel digital interface.

The camera supports x-ray energies up to 160 kVp for applications such as general radiography, tissue biopsy and bone densitometry as well as for industrial inspection and nondestructive testing applications such as plastics and composite inspection. It measures 244 × 279 × 33 mm and weighs 3.5 kg. Operating temperature is from 0 to 50 °C. Typical power dissipation is <5 W, maximum supply current is 750 mA, and maximum supply voltage is 8 V.
