CAMARILLO, Calif., July 22, 2010 — OptoTest Corp. has launched the S-RHIS smart remote head integrating sphere designed to accurately measure absolute power and insertion loss. It also is suitable for assessing all types of bare fibers as well as ribbon fibers terminated with high-density connectors such as MTP/MPO, MT Ferrule and MT-RJ. It also can be used for all simplex connectors such as FC, SC and LC (simplex or unibody).
It has a two-port design that enables access to two different types of connectors without adapter change, making it a suitable setup for efficient workbench operation. The dual optical port configuration can be equipped with a choice of InGaAs or silicon detectors to cover a wide wavelength range.
Other features include wide dynamic range detectors, a 50.8-mm cavity with a high reflective coating, and calibration factors that are stored directly within the sphere. The integrating sphere can interface with all OP mainframes, including OP710, OP815 and OP930, and the system integrates with the OPL series software suite.
Adapters are available for universal ferrule sizes of 1.25, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.5 mm.
Measurement range is from 10 to -45 dBm, wavelength range is from 830 to 1700 nm, and repeatability is 0.02 dB.
Using two detectors for signal processing, the integrating sphere delivers high performance and high repeatability, and the two ports enable changing of connector types on the fly without tooling.
