PLYMOUTH, Michigan, March 25, 2015 — Perceptron Smart3DA new programmable laser scanning system from Perceptron Inc. provides 3-D polygonised models accurate to 50 μm for reverse engineering, 3-D printing or graphical Web content. It can also be used for the verification of production parts against nominal part geometry data.

The Smart3D system offers a fully integrated automatic rotary table and intuitive Scanworks Studio software. Overall scanning volume is 200 × 225 × 225mm, which is compatible with the volume of most 3-D printers.

Based on the company’s Helix smart scanning sensor technology — used primarily in the automotive industry — the device incorporates microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for programmable laser line quality, density and scanning volume.

The use of a coherent laser light source provides a larger dynamic range, allowing scanning of multiple colors and finishes. The dynamic range has been farther extended by the incorporation of adjustable laser power control and dynamic auto laser intensity.
