STRATFORD, Conn., July 9, 2010 — Oriel, a Newport Corp. brand, has announced the Sol3A 12 × 12 solar simulator. The latest addition to the Class AAA solar simulator product family features a 300 × 300-mm output beam and uses a single 1600-W xenon arc lamp with an optical design that meets spectral match, nonuniformity of irradiance and temporal stability performance criteria without compromising the 1 Sun output power.
A proprietary and stable spectral correction filter can withstand the high intensity from the lamp without changing spectral properties. The simulator is suitable for use in demanding photovoltaic applications that require a continuous-wave light source.
The black nonreflective finish minimizes stray light and incorporates versatile captive screws for easy user access for alignment, lamp replacement and filter changes. To ensure operator safety, temperature sensors and advanced safety interlocks provide additional protection and prevent inadvertent exposure to UV light.
The simulator is factory-certified and has calibration certification that validates Class AAA for the IEC 60904-9 Edition 2 (2007), JIS C 8912 and ASTM E 927-05 standards. It offers improved working distances to accommodate larger samples, and the improved optical design delivers maximum spatial uniformity. Four models are available at output beam sizes of 50.8 × 50.8, 101.6 × 101.6, 152.4 × 152.4 and 203.2 × 203.2 mm. Rigorously tested, the new Sol3A 12 × 12 offers high reliability and long-life operation to accommodate round-the-clock production environments.
The 94023A and 94043A have a collimation angle of <±4°, and all models have uniformity of ≤2%. The 94063A has a <±3° collimation angle, and the 94083A, <±2°. Line regulation for all models is 0.01%.
