SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 29, 2013 — The Helios series of subnanosecond solid-state lasers from Coherent Inc. is suited for applications including scribing of thin-film and crystalline-silicon solar cells, dicing of silicon wafers, and precision marking for use in the electronics and photovoltaics industries.
The Q-switched lasers are based on a master-oscillator power-amplifier (MOPA) architecture, and feature a pulse repetition frequency of 50 kHz and a pulse width of <600 ps. The oscillator delivers a TEM00 circular beam with M2 <1.2, and the integrated amplifier stage allows modular power scaling. The 1064-nm-wavelength lasers are available in several output powers, with total power up to 5 W. At a pulse repetition rate of 50 kHz, this translates into a pulse energy of 100 µJ.
