Space-Certified™ Laser DiodesPhotodigm Space-Certified™ laser diodes, detectors, and other optoelectronic components enable advanced mission payloads. Our engineering team has extensive experience in developing and implementing customized screening and testing procedures to certify compliance with stringent mission requirements. We provide space qualification services for both proprietary and third party commercial off the shelf (COTS) products. Space flight qualification requires detailed knowledge of the mission environment to develop a customized testing procedure. Consequently, flight qualification requires that laser diodes and other optoelectronic components be tested to assess their ability to perform to specification for the duration of the mission. Of particular concern is the radiation environment encountered by the mission.

Photodigm has extensive expertise in testing and characterizing radiation effects in laser diodes, including effects due to total ionizing dose (TID) and displacement damage (DD). TID is typically simulated by gamma ray radiation testing and DD is simulated by neutron or proton radiation testing. Photodigm’s testing procedures include both of these effects.

Photodigm leverages unique in-house expertise in the areas of materials, manufacturing, device failure modes, and early risk assessment/mitigation for efficient up-screening of COTS technologies, enabling a wide range of mission applications. Photodigm delivers flight-qualified units on-budget and on-schedule to meet critical launch windows.
