SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 28, 2013 — Spectra-Physics, a Newport Corp. brand, introduces Spirit 8 W, an industrial-grade femtosecond laser for micromachining applications. It delivers high average power with short 400-fs pulses for fast and flexible femtosecond micromachining, without heat damage to the processed material. Applications include manufacturing medical devices, flat panel displays and semiconductors.
The compact and robust laser is for cold-machining applications such as manufacturing of catheters, biodegradable stents and high-resolution organic LED displays.
Average power is >8 W in the infrared at 1040 nm with a second-harmonic option for generating green femtosecond pulses. Pulse energies are >40 µJ. The laser is adjustable via computer over a wide range of repetition rates from single-shot up to 1 MHz. It is fully automated and features good beam characteristics with diffraction-limited TEM00 mode.
