Single-Longitudinal-Mode Laser
KRAILLING, Germany, Aug. 25, 2009 – InnoLas Laser GmbH has announced the Spitlight Passive SLM, a single-longitudinal-mode laser that is a flashlamp pumped with a passive Q-switch and double amplifier transition. The combination of innovative optical components results in a high-quality beam profile. The central element is a phase-conjugate mirror that enables a quality loss-free double amplifier transition.

InnoLas_Laser_Spitlight_SLM.jpgThe phase-conjugate mirror produces a spatially accurate and diffusion-free reflection of the beam. Combining wavefront conjugation with a pinhole-based spatial filter, the beam passes the amplifier repeatedly without any loss of quality. Thus the laser guarantees a pure Gaussian or Hypergaussian beam profile in the longitudinal and transversal single-mode regimes.

The virtually flattop beam profile turns the laser into a suitable beam source for all applications that require high beam quality and focus. The diffraction-free profile of the pure single-longitudinal-mode beam is realized without any loss of power density so that the system can be used for applications with high impulse power. With a coherence length close to the transform limit, the laser is suitable also for use in dynamic holography and other holographic applications such as pulse compression.

Another advantage of the high beam quality is in the use of frequency-doubling crystals. The laser’s efficiency is well-tested for frequency multiplication up to the fifth harmonic, achieving record efficiency at 1064, 532, 355, 266 and 213 nm, respectively. The absence of diffraction rings reduces the strain of the crystals for mirror separation which, in turn, increases the life span of the crystals. Improving the beam properties over the operating time of a crystal reduces the maintenance costs for the laser system.
