IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 3, 2010 – Newport Corp. has introduced a coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) optimized supercontinuum generation fiber device. Designed for use with 800-nm femtosecond lasers, the SCG-800-CARS contains 12-cm highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber with zero dispersion points at ~775 and ~945 nm.

Two closely spaced zero-dispersion wavelengths enable stable, low-noise supercontinuum generation that allows for control of the spectral shape by tuning the pump wavelength. The fiber ends are sealed and mounted in quartz ferrules, with the polarization axis aligned to a line on the end of the device. The nonlinear supercontinuum fiber is mounted in a robust 25-mm-diameter, 120-mm-long aluminum housing that can be easily mounted on a translation stage. The white-light-generation preassembled device features sealed end facets with built-in beam expansion for easy coupling of the laser input beam and a high damage threshold, making it a turnkey solution suitable for use in spectroscopy and microscopy applications.

The core diameter is 1.4 µm, nominal mode field diameter is 1.36 µm, cut-off wavelength is <500 nm, nonlinearity is 130, spot size is 39 to 78 µm, and numerical aperture is 0.44.
