HBM Inc.’s T40B and T40FM torque transducers include an integrated speed measurement system for work in harsh environments, such as those containing humidity, condensation, dust, oil and grease.

The devices take measurements based on the contactless sensing of an anisotropic magnetoresistive sensor, making the transducer signal more robust and stable than that of an optical system. Able to measure torque and speed (with a 1024-pulse output) simultaneously, the devices also offer a higher resolution than traditional optical systems.

The radial or axial distance between the sensor and the magnetic ring is 2.5 mm, giving the system a high vibration tolerance. Using an optional reference pulse signal, the system can integrate the rotational speed and the angle of rotation in the control loop of downstream equipment, such as a data acquisition system.

Additional features include torque measuring ranges up to 80,000 Nm; up to 0.3% of full-scale linearity and hysteresis combined; and standard response times of 1000, 3000, 6000 and 10,000 Hz.
