The TIM551 2-D ranging laser scanner from Sick sends information about surrounding contours via Ethernet using time-of-flight technology. Its applications include robotics, building automation, mobile vehicle and conveyor applications.

With an IP67-rated housing and proprietary HDDM technology, the device offers a scanning range of up to 10 m (8 m on black targets). One TIM551 scanner can monitor an area of up to 235 sq m. Its maximum height of 86 mm enables it to be integrated into a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications, and its rotatable M12 connector permits device connection and replacement.

Suitable for both stationary and mobile applications, the company says that it provides accurate object size and shape information regardless of surface and ambient light conditions.
