BARRINGTON, N.J., Sept. 2, 2010 — Edmund Optics is expanding its selection of TechSpec MgF2 coated achromatic lenses. Consisting of two optical components cemented together to form an achromatic doublet, the lenses include fast achromatic types and micro achromats. They are computer-optimized to correct for on-axis spherical and chromatic aberrations and offer a variety of optical solutions for polychromatic illumination and imaging needs.

Fast achromatic lenses allow for maximum light collection and are designed to produce a small focused spot size and high-quality images without decreasing the clear aperture, and they offer improved chromatic focal shift. Featuring f/1 designs, they have been designed to minimize chromatic and spherical aberration for good focused spots at short working distances. They are available with a single-layer MgF2 coating in diameters ranging from 9 to 25 mm. Other designs and coating options also are available. They are suitable for use in laser focusing applications.

Micro achromats are available in 1- to 5-mm diameters and in focal lengths from 1.5 to 20 mm. They have a single-layer MgF2 coating or a broadband multilayer coating for the visible spectrum.

They are suitable for use in space constrained imaging applications such as borescopes and medical imaging. The company says that they are better than simple lenses for multicolor imaging because the two elements composing the doublet lens are paired together for their ability to correct the color separation inherent in glass. They are a cost-effective choice for eliminating chromatic aberrations and are suitable for use in a variety of optical applications.

The achromatic lenses are in-stock and available for immediate delivery, and the components are fully supported by engineering prints and easily integrated into complex assemblies through the available Zemax files.
