BARRINGTON, N.J., May 1, 2012 — For prototyping optical systems, Edmund Optics has introduced its TechSpec optical cage system. Offering a high-precision alternative to complex optical alignment systems, the versatile optical bench components are designed for modularity and flexibility, allowing users to continuously modify system design.
The system consists of precision rods, plates and mounts, allowing the user to construct customized, adaptable optomechanical systems with limitless options for modification by rearranging or adding components, such as optical mounts and angular brackets. Components are purchased individually. They are durable and feature tight tolerances and rigidity, guaranteeing smooth movement, precision alignment and high accuracy.
Individual components include plates, rods, mounts and tubes, which combine with adapters, brackets, spheres and other accessories to ensure adaptability in angular mounting, translation and positioning, as well as the ability to support multiple beam paths. With the use of off-the-shelf components, the cage system eliminates the need to purchase costly custom mounting components. The components are designed for use with commercially available optics, lasers, light sources, detectors and cameras.
The system is suitable also for university research and experimentation. The modular, portable system can be used in demonstrations. Setups can be easily preconstructed and transported, minimizing the need for lengthy assembly and alignment at the demonstration site.
