Optronics has launched Microcast, a digital three-CCD camera designed for installation on surgical microscopes. The medical-grade megapixel camera system provides real-time, 36-bit RGB image processing with an 81-dB dynamic range and a 60-dB signal-to-noise ratio. The camera is compatible with many FireWire-based DV and DVD recorders and software applications. Using the system with Apple iMovie HD enables surgeons to broadcast the procedure in the operating room and to create still image and video files for documentation. The camera is controlled via a remote control keypad or by programmable buttons on the remote camera head. Aspects of the live image can be adjusted, including brightness and detail.
