Trestles wavelength conversion units from Del Mar Photonics Inc. can be added to Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser systems and are suitable for microscopy and spectroscopy. The second harmonic generation (SHG) version is based on nonlinear crystals and doubles the frequency from a Ti:sapphire laser, and the third harmonic generation (THG) model triples the frequency. When pumped with a laser operating in the near-IR, the SHG will be in the long-UV and visible blue (350 to 475 nm), and the THG, in the deep-UV (240 to 310 nm). The former produces better than 12% conversion efficiency, while the latter produces better than 4%, with pulse broadening of less than 50 fs.
