The Mira HP ultrafast Ti:sapphire oscillator from Coherent Inc. is specified to generate more than 3.3 W of output power, while typically delivering more than 4 W at 800 nm. Designed to be pumped by a Verdi V18 laser, it provides higher power across the entire tuning curve. When it is used to pump a synchronous optical parametric oscillator to obtain widely tunable visible and IR wavelengths, the increase in power is more significant. The device features X-Wave optics, Kerr lens mode-locking, group-velocity dispersion prism compensation, and an Optima control and diagnostics package. It has applications in areas such as deep-tissue imaging and nanosurgery on living cells.
