Tunics T100R O-Band Laser
Yenista Optics Inc.
LANNION, France, March 11, 2011 — Yenista Optics has released a tunable laser in the 1310-nm-wavelength region. The Tunics T100R model uses a new optical cavity design to provide optical power of 6 dBm with low-noise >80 dB/0.1-nm signal-to-spontaneous-emission ratio.
Patented self-filtered external cavity laser technology enables the combination of low noise and high power. The O-band laser operates from 1270 to 1340 nm and is suitable for characterizing narrow-bandwidth filters and for functioning as a light source for testing high-speed transmission systems. Engineers developing and testing components for the latest 40- and 100-Gigabit Ethernet and fiber-to-the-home/passive optical networks benefit from the performance of this laser, according to the company. Proprietary Optim-Y technology delivers high wavelength accuracy and mode-hop-free operation with no amplified spontaneous emission.
The laser operates in both sweeping and step-by-step modes, has a wide tuning range from 1490 to 1650 nm, and includes an integrated wavelength meter that delivers absolute wavelength accuracy of ±5 pm and stability down to ±1 pm/h.
Applications include coarse and dense wavelength division multiplexing channel simulation, optical components testing (couplers, splitters, filters, fiber Bragg gratings, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers), erbium-doped fiber amplifer and optical amplifier testing, tunable laser probes for high-end loss or dispersion measurement, spectroscopy, and long-term monitoring of thin-film growth and in-process alignment.
Typical tuning repeatability is ±1 pm, wavelength setting resolution is 1 pm, optical frequency fine tuning is ±2 GHz, return loss is 60 dB, and operating temperature is from 18 to 35 °C.
