Point Grey Research Inc. has added the GS3-U3-60S6 model to its Grasshopper3 camera family. Featuring CCD sensors with a USB 3.0 interface, it is suitable for applications including flat panel inspection, 3-D measurement, ophthalmology, flow-scanning cytometry and fluorescence imaging.

The device is based on color and monochrome versions of the Sony ICX694, a 1-in. CCD with 4.54-µm² pixels that can send 2736 × 2192 images at 13 fps and maximum bit depth. The ICX694 sensor uses Sony’s EXview HAD CCD II technology to improve quantum efficiency, reduce smear and increase sensitivity, including into the near-infrared.
