USB 3.0 Cameras

IDS Imaging Development Systems has introduced the UI-3580CP-C industrial cameras offering the new Aptina 5-megapixel CMOS sensor. The color imager produces 2560 × 1920-pixel resolution at 15 fps. The sensor delivers reduced image noise and offers increased image quality. For applications that don’t require color images, the UI-3480CP-M offers the same detail and frame rate in a true monochrome sensor.
The USB 3.0 interface delivers a tenfold increased data rate up to 400 MB/s compared to USB 2.0’s 40 MB/s or GigE’s 100 MB/s. The high bandwidth of both cameras enables multicamera systems and data-intensive applications. Because USB 3.0 is downward-compatible, existing USB 2.0 systems can still be used.
Digital input/outputs include trigger, flash and pulse width modulation, while two general-purpose input/outputs are optically isolated and connected via a Hirose connector. With their compact, lightweight magnesium housing, the cameras are suited for applications where space is at a premium.
To simplify deployment of the cameras, the company offers a software package for Microsoft Windows and Linux that includes 32-/64-bit drivers, demo programs and source code in C ++, C # and Virtual Basic.
