Cameras with 10.6-Megapixel Sensor
OBERSULM, Germany, Dec. 22, 2009 – IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH has launched new USB and GigE cameras designed around a 10.6-megapixel CMOS sensor from Aptina Imaging Corp. The company says that the sensor provides four times the resolution of high-definition television (HDTV) and that, with its ½-in. optical format, it can capture tiny details with high accuracy, even with a large field of view. The models, like all of the company’s uEye cameras, are supplied with an easy-to-use software package that allows seamless integration into existing vision applications.

IDS_GigE.jpgThe USB 2.0 camera models operate at a rate of more than 3 fps in 10.6-megapixel mode, and the GigE models deliver up to 8 fps and can transfer full 12-bit color depth. All models also provide area-of-interest, binning and subsampling modes for quick previews and live image acquisition. HDTV 1080p resolution is achievable, as are rates of more than 100 fps at smaller image sizes.

Built-in scaling enables image size reduction in real time. In this mode the sensor can scale the image size in factors from 1 to 8.

Cameras with the new sensor are available in all of the company’s camera series. The portfolio covers a broad range of USB 2.0 and GigE models, board-level and housing versions, and splash water-resistant cameras that meet the IP65/IP67 standards.

Because the included software package is the same for all uEye cameras, users can quickly upgrade to the 10.6-megapixel models and integrate them within their own applications. The new cameras can be implemented with adjustment of a few camera-specific parameters. The high-resolution models are supported by uEye software version 3.50 onwards. The software can be downloaded for free from the company's Web site in 32- and 64-bit versions for Linux and for Windows XP, Vista and 7.
