GREEN ISLAND, N.Y., Aug. 11, 2015 — The Optan surface-mount device from Crystal IS Inc. features an LED emitting in the ultraviolet C (UVC) band for use in underwater applications.

The device is based on native aluminum nitride substrates, enabling more effective and efficient biofilm and biofouling control and supporting total organic carbon monitoring in water. It can also be used as a low-voltage source of UVC light for camera and photodetector calibration.

The device meets manufacturers’ sensing needs while protecting costly instruments in ocean and industrial process instrumentation.
