Spectra-Physics Lasers Div. has released the Explorer, a Q-switched, ultraviolet diode-pumped solid-state OEM laser system at 349 nm. It features a TEM00 output beam with M2<1.3. It is available with a beam diameter of 0.15 mm, beam divergence of <3.5 mrad and optical noise of <3% rms from single-shot up to 5 kHz. The laser head measures 165 x 95 x 54 mm, and the controller measures 164 x 130 x 65.5 mm. With pulse energy of 60 or 120 μJ, the system is suitable for Maldi and laser microdissection applications and is an alternative for pulsed nitrogen gas lasers.
