SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 14, 2013 — A new ultraviolet fiber laser from Coherent Inc. offers the precision processing capabilities of a short-pulse, picosecond laser, together with the high-throughput speed of a Q-switched, diode-pumped solid-state laser.
The Daytona 355-20 delivers >20 W of power in subnanosecond pulses at repetition rates of >1 MHz at 355 nm. It produces a TEM00 output beam with M2 <1.3, making it suitable for precision micromachining. It is a flexible platform that can be adjusted over a broad operating range to match the needs of a particular application. Pulse width can be adjusted from <1 to 20 ns, while repetition rate can go from single shot to >2 MHz.
Applications that can benefit from the laser’s operating regime include high-precision processing of a wide range of materials in high-throughput applications. Examples include wafer dicing, scribing and drilling, glass scribing for touch panels and LCDs, touch-screen patterning, and thin-film scribing for photovoltaics manufacturing.
