Ultra-Compact Laser Power MeterThe Ophir Ariel self-contained, ultra-compact laser power meter from MKS Instruments Inc. measures high-power industrial lasers of up to 8 KW.

Designed for OEM and end-user applications in closed and confined spaces such as additive manufacturing, metal cutting, and welding, the Ariel power meter is a robust, battery-powered device that requires no water or fan cooling. It measures laser powers from 200 mW to 8 KW, along with a wide range of wavelengths including 450- to 550-nm green and blue lasers, increasingly popular in copper welding; 900- to 1100-nm fiber lasers, used in most metal processing; 10.6-µm CO2 lasers; and 2.94-µm medical lasers.

The power meter can be operated in continuous or short exposure mode, with or without a diffuser for higher power densities, and can be operated in standalone or wireless configurations. It is ideal for environments not suitable for human operators and where cables or separate display units are not allowed, such as additive manufacturing chambers.
