Ultrafast Fiber Laser

VICTOR, N.Y., Oct. 26, 2010 — Toptica Photonics Inc. has announced an ultrafast fiber laser with short pulse durations. The tunable “ultra compressed pulse” (UCP) model of the FemtoFiber pro series provides a supercontinuum between 980 and 1400 nm, with >30-mW output power.

The mode-locked fiber laser system features pulse durations <25 fs and is suited for biophotonics, pump-probe experiments and femtosecond spectroscopy. The company says that it delivers high performance, ease of use, reliability and robustness.

Based on saturable absorber mirror (SAM) mode-locking technology and a core-pumped fiber amplifier, the master oscillator power amplifier platform is all-fiber and based completely on polarization-maintaining fibers. The SAM technology ensures self-starting and stable mode-locking under all laboratory conditions, and the all-fiber setup provides robustness against environmental changes.

The system includes two motorized prism compressors. The first optimizes the supercontinuum generated by a highly nonlinear fiber, and the second optimizes the pulse duration, enabling pulse durations down to 13 fs.

The standard repetition rate is 80 MHz, with 40 MHz also available. Up to three fiber-coupled seed ports turn every FemtoFiber pro model into a complex laser system for multibeam experiments with optically synchronized laser pulses.

Typical autocorrelation intensity at 1235 nm is 13fs.
