Mass spectrometer
BILLERICA, Mass., April 29, 2009 – Bruker Daltonics Inc. has launched the next-generation ultrafleXtreme Maldi-Tof (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight)/Tof mass spectrometer with proprietary 1-kHz smartbeam-II laser technology. It is suitable for use in proteomics, biomarker discovery and quantitation, Biopharma quality control, tissue molecular imaging and top-down sequencing applications.
It combines true 1-kHz speed in both Tof and Tof/Tof modes with high performance and flexibility for a variety of complementary research, clinical and applied proteomics applications. The instrument offers a laser spot size close to single-cell spatial resolution and acquires data at a high speed. Repetition rates are from 1 to 1000 Hz.
The company’s Edmass protein sequencing capabilities enable rapid and sensitive intact protein characterization and sequencing with read lengths up to and beyond 80 residues and with direct analysis of N- and C-terminal modifications. Broadband mass resolving power up to 40,000 enables precision proteomics via proprietary PAN technology for high mass resolution across a broad mass range, not just at a selected optimum.
The FlashDetector, combined with a 4-GHz digitizer and advanced electronics, provides 1-ppm mass accuracy. The device enables laser focus diameters down to 10 µm for high spatial resolution imaging without pixel overlap.
The laser-irradiation self-cleaning Maldi Perpetual ion source ensures robust long-term performance. Efficient data retrieval and interpretation are provided by fully integrated software platforms designed by the company.
