The TruMicro 7050 disk laser from Trumpf Ltd. operates at 1030 nm with pulse duration of 30 ns, independent of the repetition rate. Maximum pulse energy is 80 mJ, and maximum and minimum repetition rates are 100 and 5 kHz, respectively. Nominal power consumption is 5 kW. Cooling water temperature range is from 5 to 20 °C. To protect thin-film solar modules against unfavorable environmental influences – especially against moisture – a width of approximately 10 mm of the layer system is ablated along the edge and covered with laminated film. The traditional method employed is sandblasting, but the TruMicro lasers provide a more suitable process, according to the company. The 7050 can process large areas at production speed, while other models have applications in the photovoltaic cell industry.
