Ultrasmall Sensors

Pepperl+Fuchs Inc. has introduced the R2 series, a complete family of ultraminiature photoelectric sensors available in four sensing modes for use in the semiconductor, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.
The through-beam-mode devices measure 24 × 6.5 × 11.2 mm and provide an industry-standard mounting footprint, a flush- and wear-resistant antistatic glass lens and a 45° cable outlet for mounting flexibility. They can be installed in extremely tight spaces and close to moving objects. Enhanced LEDs indicate their operating state.
The no-load supply current is <10 mA, sensing distance is up to 2.5 m, and response time is 600 μs. The sensors can operate with 10- to 30-VDC supply voltage and from −25 to 60 °C. They are IP67-rated and carry the CE mark, and UL and cUL approvals.
They are equipped with a secondary emitter LED that provides a small, precise spot size, eliminating the need for external apertures. The sensors also are available in polarized retroreflective and background suppression modes. Industry-standard 15-mm mounting hole separation enables the R2 series to be retrofitted to existing applications. Threaded mounting holes enable them to be installed without mounting nuts.
