BERLIN, March 7, 2007 -- Laser diode modules manufacturer Lumics GmbH announced the release of the Telcordia-compliant LU0975T040 uncooled pump laser module. Target applications include erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) for CATV and telecom applications.
The device offers an optical output power of 4 W from a 105/125-µm multimode fiber. The module is Telcordia GR-468 CORE compliant with a reliability of FIT (flexible infrared transmission) <600. The footprint of the laser diode is specified with only 22 x 11 mm including a 2.7-mm screw hole for mounting to a heat sink. The modules can be air cooled with standard heat sink components for the popular TO220 footprint.
The complete module assembly is based on fully automated active fiber alignment technology. The production is ISO 9001-approved with several screening steps throughout the chip manufacturing and module assembly process.
The operating current is specified with typically 5 A. The very low forward voltage is specified with typically 1.8 V. The recommended case temperature is 25 °C and the numerical aperture multimode fiber is specified with NA= 0.22. The threshold current is typically 400 mA. The laser diode is isolated to the ground.
The high performance of the LU0975T040 device is based on Lumics proprietary chip technology which ensures very high reliability and high power based on a breakthrough in diode laser chip facet passivation.
Lumics will display the laser module from March 27-29 in booth 3743 at OFC/NFOEC (Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference) in Anheim, Calif.
