SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 10, 2014 — The 1784 from New Focus is a modulated, multimode vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL).

The 1784 is a high-speed 850-nm light source with 50 µm output fiber, enabling the use of either 50 or 62.5 µm fiber.

Its applications include fiber and breadboard systems for characterizing data transceivers, and it can be coupled with short-reach, high-speed multimode communication devices, active optical cables or optical backplanes.
