VCSEL ArraysPrinceton Optronics Inc. has announced high-power vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays with top-mounted diffusers for 3D imaging applications.

The 860- and 940-nm devices are used for IR illumination for time-of-flight or other distance measurements. The diffusers are able to modify the divergence angle from the native 20° round beam to a maximum of 110 × 90° divergence. Other divergence angles such as 65 × 45° are also available.

The 860-nm illuminators are used predominantly in indoor applications, while the 940-nm illuminators are used for outdoor applications where solar background is present.

The arrays have a wavelength bandwidth of 5 nm and an efficiency of >40 percent at 60 °C.
