VI_System.jpgThe V20-850C from VI Systems GmbH is a low-power vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) chip for the short-range fiber optic transceivers used in data communications and interconnect applications. It operates at up to 20 Gb/s in 850-nm multimode fiber systems. Current density is <3 kA/cm2. The company says that it can be operated at much higher modulation speeds than traditional VCSELs can, but with the same current density, and that there is essentially no temperature dependence in the device’s performance up to 100 °C.
