VI Systems GmbH is offering a new ultrahigh-speed vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) driver integrated circuit that is designed for serial data rates of up to 40 Gb/s in short-reach optical communications systems. It is the first generation of ultrahigh-speed and low-power drivers for directly modulated VCSELs. The A40-150C is designed for use in high-speed optical transceivers and is specified for the next generation of directly modulated VCSEL components with high data rates up to 40 Gb/s. It can modulate VCSELs with very high frequencies to enable ultrahigh-speed data transmission over a 50-/125-μm multimode fiber. Target applications are short-reach optical receivers and transceiver modules used in optical communications networks and optical interconnects in the computer industry.
