WANAQUE, N.J., Sept. 17, 2009 – The VHX-600 Generation II digital microscope manufactured by Keyence Corp. of America now produces 16-bit imaging resolution that makes subtle color differences visible and optimizes areas that were previously too dark or too bright. The brightness range has been increased from the previous 256 levels to 65,536 levels, and the three-CCD color clarity has improved from 16 million to more than 2.8 trillion colors.

Keyence-16-bit.jpgWith the high dynamic range function, the advanced high performance graphic engine creates images in 16-bit gradation through the acquisition of red, green, blue data from each pixel. When compared to conventional 8-bit data processing, infinitely more detailed profiles can be acquired and represented.

The company has developed a new technology known as the Double'R automatic lens/zoom recognition system. It is now possible for the microscope to recognize, in real time, not only which lens is mounted to the camera, but also the current magnification being viewed. Calibration is automatically adjusted every time the magnification is changed. The magnification setting required for 3-D observation is not necessary, resulting in faster and more accurate measurements.

The microscope offers a large depth of field that is at least 20 times greater than that offered by conventional microscopes. The three-CCD handheld camera includes a pixel-shift actuator that, despite its compact size, produces ultrahigh resolution of up to 54 million pixels. A flicker-free progressive-scan method allows texture expression and color reproduction similar to observation with the naked eye. A wide selection of high-resolution optical design zoom lenses with up to 5000× magnification provides good image quality with good chromatic aberration correction.

Targets can be freely observed with the camera/lens unit either handheld or mounted in the multi-angle viewing stand. Observation can be performed at all angles without manipulating the target. Through simple mouse operations, the microscope performs real-time, on-screen measurement of the distance, radius, angle and area of the target.
