The all-solid-state SS series variable optical attenuators (VOAs) manufactured by Agiltron Inc. achieve response times of <100 µs. They are suitable for continuous power regulation operation, optical transient suppression and analog signal modulation applications. Electrical control of optical power via a nonmechanical configuration is activated by a low-voltage control signal. No special circuitry is required, and the design is free of mechanical movement and organic materials. The attenuators are available in normally open or normally closed configurations, and with an integrated output tap option. A polarization-maintaining version also is available. Attenuation can be continuously adjusted with the applied current.
