ORLANDO, Fla., July 31, 2013 — ScannerMAX, a division of Pangolin Laser Systems Inc., has released the VRAD-506, a rotary actuator with a failsafe magnetic spring return, for use as a rotary solenoid or for optical shutters and optical element positioners.

The actuator measures 0.5 × 0.6 in. and provides 28° of motion for wide-angle capability with only 5-V input. It features two coils, which aid in diverse applications, and it can provide redundancy when conventional solutions fall short.

The low-torque motor is suited for low-weight inertial loads such as flags, filters and other optical elements.
