Vacuum spectrometers are now available from McPherson Inc. for vacuum ultraviolet applications involving transient or fast plasma physics, astrophysics, materials science (luminescence, Raman) and laser-matter interaction experiments. The instruments feature stainless steel housings and components for ultrahigh-vacuum applications. They achieve 10e—6 torr vacuum during operation with elastomer (Viton or Buna-N) seals. They have master polished optics, multiple entrance and exit ports, and high-precision wavelength drives for good wavelength reproducibility. High-reflectivity coatings provide up to 78% reflective efficiency at wavelengths as short as 120 nm, and other coatings are available for peak performance in mid- and long-wavelength-infrared applications. An f/4.7 aperture ratio (670 mm, f/l) assures good light throughput. The devices are suitable for wavelength scanning and imaging applications.
