Anritsu - VectorStar Opto-Electronic VNAHigh-speed data rate testing involves photodetector and modulators that tackle a bandwidth of at least 110 GHz. For testing and characterizing devices like TOSA, ROSA, BOSA, and even on wafer SipH devices, an opto-electronic VNA that covers a microwave broadband frequency range is a must to have. The VectorStar ME7848A series ONA enables fast and accurate error-corrected transfer function, group delay, S-parameter, and optical power measurements in applications using E/O and O/E components.

The MN4765B O/E calibration module is a photodiode reference standard detector that is thermally stabilized to minimize drift over temperature. The MN4775A E/O converter includes a calibration module with a lithium niobate (LiNbO3) modulator stabilized by an automatic bias controller and a tunable or fixed-wavelength laser source. Excellent converter stability ensures characteristics remain consistent during O/E DUT detector and receiver measurements.

Magnitude and phase characterization of the O/E calibration module is obtained using Anritsu’s primary calibration lab standard characterized by NIST. Accurate photodiode bias voltage is maintained internally. The built-in application menus guide the user through set-up and full 12-term, de-embedded calibration required for simplified E/O and O/E de-embedding measurements, resulting in stable and repeatable measurements of opto-electronic devices.

The ME7848A ONA can be easily modified to a different wavelength by adding the appropriate MN4775A E/O converter and MN4765B O/E calibration detector. The ME7848A-100 series can be upgraded to a 200 series by including the appropriate MN4775A E/O converter. In contrast to turnkey solutions, the same VectorStar VNA model can be used at multiple wavelengths, so purchasing additional VNAs is not necessary. The VectorStar VNA can be easily switched between electrical and opto-electronic measurements. Only one 12-term calibration is required, which can be applied to E/E, E/O, and O/E set-ups. This makes the VectorStar ME7848A flexible and easy to use for all high-speed device measurements.
