vertical displacement microscopeThe ZDM-3 vertical displacement microscope from Titan Tool Supply Inc. measures minute variations in height.

The Z-axis electronic depth measuring microscope features a built-in LED coaxial illuminator to allow the user to focus on the top or bottom of the part being inspected. The illuminator includes a green filter and is adjustable to control light, color, and intensity. The ZDM-3 is available with magnifications from 50× to 400× with a standard 10× eyepiece, and 100× to 800× magnifications with an optional 20× eyepiece. It can also be fitted with a video adapter.

Applications in the electronics industry include the semiconductor field to measure heights of the bonded portion of lead wire, wafer bump, lead frames, and solder. The new microscope also measures the step heights of hybrid integrated circuits as well as terminal steps on multilayer PC boards. Other applications include measuring and engraving the depth of minute cracks, printing rolls, plastic molds, computer media, and score on beverage cans.
