DURHAM, N.C., Aug. 25, 2010 — Cree Inc. has announced the commercial availability of its new RoHS-compliant XLamp MX-3 LED that offers enhanced uniform angular chromaticity and LED-to-LED color consistency. The flattop plastic leaded chip carrier device is suitable for use in LED bulbs, retail display and linear lighting, and fluorescent retrofits.
It delivers luminous flux of up to 122 lm at 350 mA in cool white (6500K) and up to 100 lm at 350 mA in warm white (3500K). Typical color rendering index for the cool white model is 75 and, for the warm white, 80. Offering design simplicity and flexibility, it shares a common footprint with the company's XLamp MX-6 LED and is used in high-flux distributed illumination such as cove lighting and wall washing.
Delivering a 120° viewing angle, unlimited floor life in temperatures of ≤30 °C with 85% relative humidity, uniform light output without secondary optics and an electrically neutral thermal path, the LED achieves typical thermal resistance, junction to solder point, of 11 °C/W, DC forward current of 400 mA, typical forward voltage at 350 mA of 3.7 V, with 4 V maximum, and a LED junction temperature of 150 °C.
