SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 30, 2011 — OnChip Devices has launched silicon-based thin-film components with a resistance range of 5 to 150 MΩ. The XTM resistor family is produced using proprietary processes and exhibits good stablity over the life of the products. The company says that the thin-film process yields a resistance element that is less noisy and more stable over extreme temperatures when compared with thick-film components.

Stable resistors are used in medical, instrumentation, military, aerospace and consumer electronics applications. Other uses for the high-resistance precision chip resistors include low signal detection, photodiode signal amplification, photomultipliers, ionization detection and other amplification circuits. The resistors measure 1117.6 × 1371.6 μm and have a typical thickness of 254 μm. The top bond pads measure 330.2 × 330.2 and are suitable for wire-bonding.

Designed with long serpentine strings of high-resistivity material, the devices are built using semiconductor stepper technology to achieve fine lines and space. They devices are fabricated on 5-in. wafers and can be shipped sawed or unsawed and in GelPaks. The operating temperature ranges from −55 to 175 °C, with stability over temperature below 500 ppm/°C. The resistors also can be offered in miniature surface-mount-device integrated circuit packages such as SOT23 for printed circuit board mounting.

They can be laser trimmed to customer-specific resistor values.
