The HPX-2000-HP-DUV xenon light source from Ocean Optics is a 75-W short-arc lamp for UV-VIS absorbance spectroscopy and other applications where a high-intensity lamp is required. It provides continuous spectral output from 185 to 2000 nm and offers up to 2000 h of bulb life.

The lamp’s integrated shutter can be controlled via a switch on the front panel or a TTL signal over the rear panel, so that taking dark measurements or making other adjustments does not affect stability or compromise experiment integrity. Adding an external filtering option such as the company’s direct-attach cuvette holder turns the source into a broadband excitation source for fluorescence.

The output intensity is 3.5× to 4× higher than that of standard xenon sources. Optimum warm-up time is 40 to 60 min, and drift is <0.06%/h (after 1-h stabilization).
