OXFORD, Mass., Feb. 14, 2013 — IPG Photonics Corp. has announced a new generation of kilowatt low-mode ytterbium fiber lasers offering lower cost per watt of laser power, including operating expenses and service requirements. The improved 1060-nm lasers offer simple operation and extend the range of applications for fiber lasers.
The YLS-xxx-Y13 series lasers feature increased wall-plug efficiency (up to 33% from 28-30%), up to two times average improvement in beam quality, and an increase in the estimated mean time of uninterrupted operation from the current 1½ years to >3 years.
Technological improvements include higher-power diode modules; a new fiber block design with a threefold increase in damage power threshold; single-mode fiber modules with higher power and efficiency; internally developed and manufactured modular digital power supplies with higher efficiency and enhanced redundancy features; digital laser diode current drivers with increased control flexibility, stability and precision; a new control system allowing integrated control of both the laser and process subsystem; a new generation of compact hermetically sealed multichannel beam switches; a sealed laser cabinet design for use in extreme operating conditions; and new process heads for welding, cutting and remote welding applications.
